Lengthy waits have been snaking around gas stations

France has issued an immediate advisory for its people in the landlocked nation to depart as soon as feasible, as Islamist insurgents persist their embargo of the country.

The France's diplomatic corps recommended citizens to exit using airline services while they are still accessible, and to avoid surface transportation.

Energy Emergency Intensifies

A two-month-old petroleum embargo on Mali, established by an al-Qaeda-affiliated group has disrupted routine existence in the capital, the urban center, and different parts of the enclosed Sahel region state - a former French colony.

France's statement came as MSC - the largest global transport corporation - announcing it was suspending its activities in Mali, referencing the blockade and declining stability.

Insurgent Actions

The militant faction the Islamist alliance has caused the blockage by targeting tankers on main routes.

Mali has restricted maritime borders so each gasoline shipment are brought in by road from bordering nations such as Senegal and the coastal nation.

Diplomatic Actions

In recent weeks, the United States representation in Bamako stated that non-essential diplomatic staff and their families would evacuate Mali during the crisis.

It said the fuel disruptions had influenced the energy distribution and had the "potential to disrupt" the "overall security situation" in "unpredictable ways".

Political Context

The West African nation is now led by a military leadership commanded by the military leader, who first seized power in a military takeover in the past decade.

The armed leadership had public approval when it took power, vowing to handle the long-running security crisis caused by a separatist rebellion in the north by nomadic populations, which was later co-opted by jihadist fighters.

Global Involvement

The international peace mission and Paris's troops had been positioned in recent years to deal with the escalating insurgency.

The two have withdrawn since the junta took over, and the security leadership has hired foreign security contractors to tackle the instability.

Nonetheless, the militant uprising has continued and extensive regions of the north and east of the nation persist outside government control.
