Operations Recommence at Edinburgh Airport In the Wake of Significant ATC System Failure

Planes on the runway at Edinburgh Airport
A technical fault at Edinburgh's air traffic control meant no aircraft could enter or leave the hub.

Flight operations have restarted at Scotland's primary international airport after a substantial technical issue at the control tower halted all operations.

All aircraft movements were suspended due to an technical fault that arose around 08:30.

Several flyers found themselves stranded in planes on the runway during the disruption.

Operations Restart with Ongoing Delays

Officials announced at 10:40 that flights had resumed, and expressed gratitude to passengers for their "cooperation and patience".

Nonetheless, ongoing issues are expected to persist for some time. Services bound for key destinations like Amsterdam, Frankfurt, London, and Bristol have been cancelled, with numerous other services facing hold-ups.

Officials had initially projected that a significant number of movements could be affected.

"Travelers are urged to check directly with their airline for the current status on their booked journeys," the statement added.

Root of the Disruption

Officials linked the operational halt to an IT issue with its ATC service provider.

Flyers continue to be advised to check the status of their trip before departing to the airport as knock-on effects are worked through.
